Meet Sebastian!

Hi, my name is Sebastain. A lot of you have probably seen me on this thing called "Facebook?". I have been with the lab rescue for several months now and haven't found that special family.

You may wonder what this big lump is on my chest. It is a lipoma and has taken a few years to get this big. It may not add much to my dashing good looks, but it doesn't bother me any. Well, maybe besides when I am running full speed and it bounces around a bit. How annoying! My Foster ma has brought me to many vet visits and one morning she told me it was going to be removed that day. I was a little nervous, but getting to go on the car ride made me forget about it. Unfortunately, at the vet when they were getting me prepped for surgery, they realized my kidney values were very high, and needless to say, I didn't receive surgery that day.

I have been going to see the docs several times since, and they have said I have kidney disease now. My foster family has given me a special diet and also something they call sub q fluids a couple times a week. I didn't really like it at first, but now I just cuddle up next to them when it is time and take it all in. Since I have responded so well to the food and fluids, I am scheduled to have a couple smaller bumps removed in a month. Unfortunately, the awkward one that slows down my racing potential will have to stay. It is okay though, I don't mind, and I know a family will see the handsome, loving, smart boy I am.

I guess I should tell you now, kidney disease and lumps and bumps aren't my only "issues". You see, my foster ma says I was dealt a really bad hand of medical cards. But please, don't let that worry you. My prognosis is good right now and all I need is a family that will help me maintain all of them. Yes, I said "them"! On top of kidney disease, I have been managing Addisons disease, hypothyroidism and recently diagnosed hypertension. I take meds like a champ most days, and some days when I don't want to, my foster dad just put them in my mouth.

Now that we have got through the not so fun stuff, did I mention how awesome I am? I am the most playful, outgoing, loving dog ever. I might be a little bias, but I can tell you first hand. You would never know I am not the most perfect healthy dog. My "paws down" most favorite thing to do is to swim. I love it! I actually love any water, anytime of the day. I stand like a stallion (at least I think so) for bath time and will even sneak down to the creek for a quick cool down in the muck! I am still not sure why my foster family wasn't as content from this as I was. Who cares that we were all covered in muck. It was a nice mud bath for us all.

I also love walks, playing ball in the yard and just being with my family. I can be walked off of a leash and listen very well when my family calls (unless there is something more important to do, like trying to convince you it is time for a round of fetch).

I really can't wait to meet my new family. I hope you see this today!

Meet Tater Tot!

Hi everyone! My name is Tater Tot, or as my mom calls me “Miss Tay, Tay-Tay, Tater of the Tot Variety, Tater, Queen of Tots, etc!” I am five years old and a female yellow Labrador. I love to wake up in the morning surrounded by my people and will somersault onto the floor next to your leg in order to position my belly perfectly under your hand for belly scratches. I also enjoy chasing flies and unstuffing stuffed toys. When I say I love mornings, I mean it, but when it hits 8-9 at night, I like my space! Once my mom accidentally bumped me while I was snoozing on the couch and I looked at her - then moved over six inches. I do not do well with other dog friends and will be much happier in a home where I am the only dog! I’m very submissive towards other dogs and will give up my food the instant I feel threatened. Like the good Labrador I am, I will retrieve all the baby animals, carry them around in my mouth and bring them inside for my humans! I get really sad when they stop moving. I love basking in the warm sun outside so I would love to have a home with a nice backyard! I am a car dog through and through - I’ll stick my head out and feel the breeze in my ears. I enjoy walking alongside the beach, rolling around in dewy grass, chase bugs and animals and drink mud puddles. I can’t wait to meet my forever family!

Meet Abbey and Sadie!

Hi, I am Abbey and I am a 4 year old female black lab/shepard mix weighing in at 116 lbs. I love hanging outside and playing with my sister Sadie. When outdoors, I love sniffing all the new scents and trying to guess what little critter might have been there! I enjoy a good game of tug of war and then just relaxing! I love chew toys, especially bones and soft stuffed ones, but just because I can easily tear them apart! When I want something, I will find my human and lay my pretty head on their lap! I am such a good girl! I love getting praise especially when I follow commands like “sit, come, drop, lay down, leave it”. I am house trained and love sleeping on my doggie bed. I am a low key dog who is just happy as can be!

Hi, I am Sadie and I am the ‘small’ sister! I am 4 years old and weigh 70 lbs. I love playing tug of war with my sister Abbey or just chasing around the yard. I love hearing my voice when I play, it just means that I am having a blast! I am very friendly but a little shy at the beginning. I am very smart and already know some commands like “sit, come, lay down, leave it” and I bet that with some more training, I could learn so many more! I love squeaky toys because I can destroy them and then try to eat them and bones! I love chewing bones! They sure make my day! My foster mom says that I am a love bug, I love people and follow them around the house.

We are looking for a home where we can enjoy the outdoors and all the new smells that it entails! A family who will enjoy our company and all the love we have to give.

Hi there, my name is Jayne, beautiful Jayne! I have gorgeous yellow, reddish hair which glistens in the sun and I am around 4 or 5 years old. I am an extremely friendly girl who enjoys spending time with her humans and with other dogs. Being around other doggy friends is the best! I love it! Even though I am still young, I am very gentle, very ladylike. When I meet new humans, I warm up to them quickly since I know I am going to be getting some love! I know how to sit, come and wait but I know that with training, I will be able to learn so many more commands. One of the things that I love the most is food!! You can get me to learn many things if you show me a yummy treat! I am still learning that I can’t get my treats by myself, I need to wait for my humans to give them to me! I am crate trained and sleep through the night in it but I bet that I can also sleep through the night on a doggie bed right next to you! I just love humans. They are amazing, especially when they give me belly rubs and tell me what a sweet girl I am. My favorite activities are playing with balls, swimming and chewing bones! All these things make me happy and help me get a good night's sleep! I am looking for a family who loves the outdoors and playing with me outside! Someone who might be looking for a hiking or swimming partner! Maybe we can pretend we are at the Olympics and race each other and whoever wins, gets the most treats!

  • I like cats who are dog friendly and will put me in my place when needed!

  • Kid friendly, ages 10+ required due to energy level and size

  • High energy; will require lots of exercise and different outlets to burn energy

  • Needs continued training by an adopter who is willing to put in the work

Meet Bubba!

Wikipedia: “Bubba"- term of endearment mainly given to boys; formed from the word “brother”.

LRGR: “Bubba” – Me!! An 80 lb hunk of chocolate lab goodness ready to fill your home with lots of energy, kisses, and love!

Now that you know what a “Bubba” is, let me tell you more about me. I need a home where I can have lots of playtime to run out my energy - think swimming, swimming, and MORE swimming! It’s a great way for me to get the exercise I need! I also need someone willing to teach me more fun things to try (I already know stop, no sir, sit, wait, paw, treat, crate, and down - when you want me to drop something out of my mouth!) I am 1,000,000% in love with treats, so this helps me learn quickly! Yum! I am great with other dogs, but get very excited to meet them! They are fun to wrestle with and I play non-stop. But I need to be the doggie brother of a 50+ lb doggie friend—it seems I don’t quite understand my size or energy yet! My size and energy also makes it best for me to live with human kids 10+ in age. Sometimes I may jump up and bark a few times at a new person, but I generally warm up quickly! Some other fun facts about me: Leash walks around the neighborhood 3-4 times a day are just what I need to practice with a no-pull harness and get out even more energy. Different exercise activities keep me interested, especially swimming! (Did I mention I LOVE to swim?!!) At the end of the day I will be there waiting/jumping for joy to welcome you home. I love to snuggle on the couch, get belly rubs in the evening, and I sleep all night in the crate. I LOVE big bones, any kind of squeaky toys, tennis balls, and playing fetch—basically I am the true “definition” of a lovable lab—and I can’t wait to meet my forever family!

Meet Jack!

Hi Everyone! Jack Jack here. I am a 58 lbs. male who is 6 yrs old. Did my handsomeness cause you to take a double look? I may not be a total Lab but I’m still pretty terrific! I’m really intelligent, fun loving and loyal. I’m great with kids and with a proper introduction larger humans too. I have good house manners, (I was allowed on furniture in my original home, but not here so I’m learning, which is okay with me), walk well on leash and am super easy going. I know sit, down, stay (but not for too long, please), paw, drop it and come. I’m learning more cues every day and positive reinforcement training is way cool and fun…I love treats and am an attentive, focused student! My favorite activities include being close to you, going for walks and playing fetch with the Chuckit. Tennis balls are my joy and sometimes I nudge the ball around with my nose and look soooo adorable. I'm a fabulous driving companion! Now being honest here…I need to be an only pet. I’ve had some bad experiences with other dogs (not my fault!) so I’m not comfortable around them. I also have a high prey drive so please no cats or any small animals. I will chase deer, squirrels, bunnies, birds and even bugs. My other downfall is I have separation anxiety… but we’re working on it and I’m doing better! I take medicine and have a special crate. I think both of these issues can be managed with time and patience. Won’t you please give me a chance to show you how wonderful I am? You won’t find a more devoted friend!

Meet Charlie Brown!

You’re probably wondering, “What’s going on in that silly head of his?” Hi! I’m Charlie Brown, or as my friends call me, Charlie! I’m 3 years old (4 in September) with endless amounts of energy! I love to play fetch and even more I’m a master at tug-o-war. I’m a sucker for a toy that squeaks, there’s no toy I won’t chew... that’s why they call me “the TOYminator,” indestructible my butt! When I was younger, my best friend took me everywhere! We love going to the beach and swimming in the river and going on long walks in the morning. I love an adventure, so I won’t stay close by without my leash! I enjoy riding in the car and sticking my head out of the window but if we don’t take a short walk first, I sometimes get too excited and can hardly contain myself. My sniffer just wants to sniff! I’m eager to get going on walks and will often pull but with my pronged collar and a little positive reinforcement i’m walking like a champ. I’m the largest in my pack of friends, and I’ve never really played with anyone like me. I’m friendly and with a proper introduction, I’d be open to meeting someone my size. I’ve lived with cats before when I was smaller, but the neighborhood strays have really improved my prey drive. I LOVE food, and I’ve lived by one rule my entire life: ALL FOOD MUST GO TO THE LAB FOR TESTING. Unfortunately, I don’t make the rules, but it’s important that we abide by them. I’m very food motivated, and I’ll I preform my commands like sit, down, paw, and speak in exchange for your tasty treats. I can also chase my tail on command, but we’ll keep that trick between you and me. I also know wait, stay, and “leave it” but not for long! At home, you won’t need an alarm system because I’m always on standby. The UPS and mailman may get a little nervous because I use my big boy howl but I’m only trying to say hello! I love having guest, and when people come over, they always call me “jumper” and I don’t really know why. I just want to get up and personal and give them chocolate flavored kisses, is that such a crime? New people make me nervous but in a short time I usually warm up. I have a crate, but I’d rather lay with/near you, my best friend took me everywhere when I was younger, so I’m not really used to being alone... and yes... that includes your bathroom breaks. Someone must keep you company! If you leave my crate door open, I will hangout and sometimes sleep in it but please don’t close the door! I haven’t adjusted to that yet! I don’t have opposable thumbs, so I sometimes paw the door to let you know I want in, and I always want in! When I’m home alone I don’t do much, so I usually get to roam free. My toys and food don’t seem interesting to me when I don’t have someone around to enjoy it with. I love water bottles: the crunchy noise is like music to my ears so when you’re not looking, I may snag your empty bottle! I can’t wait to meet you and see what adventures await us! I’m a sweet boy, and I’ve got a lot of love to give to the right person!

Must Know:

Meet Charlie!

Hey there!

I’m Charlie but you can also call me Char or baby Char. I’m a four year old Lab Mix and absolutely love everyone I’ve ever met. The humans have told me I’m not a lap dog, but when I’m not adventuring I love to lay against you on the couch. I do have lots of energy and am hoping to find a family who will keep me busy and tire me out. I’ve grown up with another dog and cats, but would prefer to not have any cats again. I like to chase them around, which they don’t usually like. I’m great with older kids/teens but sometimes forget how big I am and can knock little ones over when we’re playing.

I know basic commands such as down, sit, wait and am crate trained. I love my crate to sleep in and it helps keep me out of trouble while you’re at work. I’m super smart but also can get into things I’m not supposed to if I don’t have humans who let me know the rules. I would do best with someone who is experienced with dogs and can set the boundaries and rules for me to follow. I love going on walks, but do have some knee issues that limit long walks on concrete/roads. My favorite outdoor activity is trail walks, so if you love the parks around Richmond, I’d love to go with you! I can’t wait to meet you!
