Foster To Adoption!
Foster‑to‑Adopt
Foster‑to‑Adopt gives approved adopters the chance to welcome a dog into their home on a trial basis while deciding if it’s the right long‑term match. During this time, the dog is still considered “in foster,” and LRGR continues to provide support, guidance, and approved veterinary care.
Once you know it’s love, you complete the adoption and officially make them part of your family.
Why Choose Foster‑to‑Adopt?
-
Save a life — Help a dog leave a shelter or difficult situation and begin their new chapter.
-
No‑pressure transition — You and your foster dog have time to adjust, bond, and settle before committing.
-
Support along the way — LRGR covers approved veterinary care and provides guidance throughout the foster period.
-
Matchmaking made easy — See how the dog fits into your home and lifestyle before finalizing adoption
How It Works
1. Apply
Submit a Foster to adoption application.
2. Match
Our team will help match you with a dog who fits your home, lifestyle, and experience level.
3. Transport & Welcome Home
LRGR provides transport to get your Foster‑to‑Adopt dog safely to you.
4. Trial Period
Spend 1–2 weeks getting to know the dog, building routine, and seeing how they settle into your home.
5. Vet Care
LRGR covers approved veterinary expenses during the foster period, including routine care, preventatives, and necessary treatments.
6. Adopt- If it’s a match, we finalize the adoption and celebrate your new family member.
Foster‑to‑Adopt is a wonderful option, but it isn’t the right fit for every situation.
This program may not be ideal if:
-
You prefer a fully trained, turnkey dog with no adjustment period.
-
You cannot commit to 1–2 weeks of decompression, routine, and structure.
-
You are unable to follow LRGR guidance during the trial period.
-
You want to “try out” multiple dogs — Foster‑to‑Adopt is for one dog at a time.
-
You cannot safely manage introductions, transitions, or basic behavior needs.
Foster‑to‑Adopt FAQ
1.How long is the trial period?
Most families take 1–2 weeks to decide if the dog is the right fit.
2.Do I pay an adoption fee upfront?
No. The adoption fee is collected only if you choose to finalize the adoption.
3.What if the dog isn’t the right match? I
If it turns out not to be the right match, no worries — that’s exactly what the Foster‑to‑Adopt period is for. We’ll keep working to find the dog’s perfect home. We simply ask that you continue fostering until we identify the right placement, so the dog doesn’t experience unnecessary disruption.
4.What does LRGR cover during the foster period?
Approved veterinary care, preventatives, and necessary treatments.
5. Can I travel during the trial period?
We recommend staying home and maintaining routine so the dog can settle safely and predictably.
6. Can I Foster‑to‑Adopt if I have other pets?
Yes — many families do. We’ll help match you with a dog who fits your home and provide guidance on introductions.

Meet Shirley!
Available as Foster to Adopt!
Shirley is the chocolate Lab who can do it ALL! At 5 years old and 65 pounds, this sweet girl is calm, cuddly, social, and happiest just being part of the family.
👧 Kids? Absolutely! Shirley currently lives with FIVE children ranging from newborn to teenager, plus an in-home daycare. She is gentle, loving, and completely trusted around kids of all ages.
🐶 Dogs? Yes! Shirley is friendly and playful without being pushy. She knows how to respect another dog's space and would be happy as an only dog or with a canine sibling.
🐱 Cats? Yes! She lives with a cat and basically couldn't care less about it. 😂
🎾 Fetch? YES PLEASE! Shirley may be a couch potato most of the time, but bring out a ball and she will happily hype herself up for a game of fetch. Then she's perfectly content to go back to being your snuggle buddy.
Shirley is also house-trained, walks nicely on leash, loves treats, and is an all-around easygoing girl. She doesn't require a fenced yard and could fit into either a quiet home or a busy family household.
She does have a few silly Lab tendencies—she thinks the trash and kitty litter box are gourmet dining opportunities—so those will need to be kept safely out of reach. 😂 She also has some hip stiffness that LRGR will have evaluated once she enters Foster to Adopt.
Her temperament evaluator summed her up beautifully: “She would do well anywhere.” ❤️
If you're looking for a sweet, adaptable chocolate Lab who is ready to be your best friend, Shirley would love to meet you!
