Meet Pepper
Pepper has been in rescue for almost six months, and we’re excited to share her brand-new update celebrating how far she has come and how much her personality has blossomed.
After being under-cared for and living life on a chain, she has been steadily healing both physically and emotionally. With good food, good medical care, and a whole lot of love, Pepper has healed and now has a sleek, shiny, gorgeous black coat. She knows she looks fabulous now, and honestly, she’s right.
Pepper is a smart, sensitive girl who is deeply loyal. She takes her job of looking out for her humans seriously, so if someone’s at the door, she’ll let you know! She’s also been working with a trainer to help her feel more confident, especially when navigating new or busy environments. She has made a lot of progress and is excited to keep learning with a new family who will cheer her on.
Once Pepper knows she is safe, she warms up and her personality pops out like confetti: goofy wiggles, happy prances, and her favorite game of hide and seek.
Why Pepper is a Gem:
Pepper is the kind of dog who bonds deeply and loves wholeheartedly. She’s sensitive, thoughtful, and full of charm. Her ideal home would be one with loving, patient humans who will continue helping her with confidence training and celebrate her progress along the way.
Pepper would do best in a quieter environment where she can relax, feel secure, and continue to grow. She needs guidance when encountering new situations, but with the right support, she is ready to show off her adorable, goofy, loyal side. Pepper is a medium-to-low-energy dog but she can be strong when she decides to pull on leash. This has already improved significantly through training and should continue to improve with consistent guidance.
If you’re looking for a companion who has blossomed beautifully, loves to learn, and has a whole lot of personality wrapped in a shiny black coat, Pepper might be your perfect match.

Grits – An Easygoing Gentleman Who Loves the Simple Life
Hi, I’m Grits! I’m an 11-year-old gentle soul with a calm, relaxed personality and a heart full of quiet loyalty. I’m the kind of dog who is happy just being part of your day — whether that means hanging out nearby while you relax, or enjoying some peaceful time outside.
I’m a nice balance of independent and social. I enjoy being around my people and my dog friends, but I’m also perfectly content doing my own thing. I really don’t ask for much — just a comfortable place to rest, a few treats, and a family to call my own.
I get along well with other dogs and can be playful at times, but I’m also happy to sit back and watch the younger pups run around and have their fun. One of my favorite places is the yard, where I love to stroll, relax, and soak up the sunshine.
I’m friendly, quiet, and easy to live with. I get around just fine and enjoy life at a comfortable pace. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-key companion who will bring calm and companionship to your home, I might be the perfect match for you.

Kids: all ages

🐾 MEET NOAH! 🐾
Meet Noah, a sweet senior Lab who is settling beautifully into his foster home! Noah is friendly, affectionate, and perfectly easygoing. He has a total goofy side—he loves to toss a ball in the air, chase it, and roll on top of it. He also insists on lying down flat to drink his water!
Noah is the ultimate couch potato. He loves yard sniffs, treats, and easy strolls. He walks great on a leash, is completely house-trained, and knows "sit," "down," and "shake."
Because of his arthritis, he is looking for a low-key lifestyle. His dream home has minimal stairs and either someone home during the day or another friendly dog for company. He can get a bit nervous in new situations and isn't a fan of car rides, but once he adjusts, he is a relaxed, loyal best friend.
Noah is neutered, heartworm/tick negative, and takes daily carprofen for his joints. Give this boy a couch and some love, and he’s set for life!

She enjoys shorter walks, playing with her favorite toys, meeting new people, and retrieving thrown balls outside. Once she warms up in her new home, she won’t leave your side! Zeta

At a Glance:
-
Age: 2 years old | Weight: 60 lbs | Energy Level: Moderate to Moderate-High
-
Dog Friendly: Yes, has greeted unfamiliar dogs appropriately
-
Cat Friendly: Seems to be ok with cats, proper introduction is encouraged
-
Kid Friendly: Unknown
-
Home Needs: Fenced yard preferred as she is an active girl who loves to run
eet ZeMeet Zeta, a bright, athletic, affectionate girl with a whole lot of personality!
When Zeta first arrived in her foster home, the outside world was a little overwhelming. Dogs, wildlife, people, and all the excitement of a new environment could send her into overdrive. She would zigzag at the end of her leash, struggle to focus, and become frustrated when she couldn't get to something she wanted to investigate.
But Zeta is a fast learner, and she has already come so far. In less than two weeks, she has learned to slow down, check in with her person, and recover more quickly when something exciting catches her attention. She's even beginning to take treats outside and can notice another dog, process the excitement, and then return to sniffing and exploring. That's a big deal for this enthusiastic girl!
Zeta is very interested in other dogs and generally does well when given the opportunity to interact with them. Her greeting style is currently more "HI! I'M SO EXCITED TO MEET YOU!" than calm and polite, so she'd do best with a confident, compatible dog who won't be overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. She could also be perfectly happy as an only dog.
And then there's Zeta's off-switch.
For all her athletic energy, this girl is surprisingly easy to live with. After some exercise, play, or training, she can happily settle beside her foster while they work, relax on the couch, or catch a nap. She loves stuffed Kongs, snuffle mats, sniffing adventures, toys, and balls. She'll even entertain herself by tossing a toy into the air and pouncing on it like a tiny fox hunting mice!
Her foster's favorite part may be her snuggly side. Zeta loves people and loves being close. She'll rest her head in your lap, lean against you, or make a dramatic flying leap onto the couch before rolling onto her back and rearranging all the blankets and pillows.
Zeta already knows sit, down, come, shake, high five, and kennel up, with stay coming along nicely. She's food motivated indoors and is increasingly able to work for treats outside as she learns to focus in exciting environments.
She would love an adopter who sees training not as a chore, but as a way to help her become the amazing dog she's capable of being. A fenced yard would give her a great outlet for her athletic energy, while a quieter neighborhood would make her continued leash training easier. With her athleticism and enthusiasm, she may even have the potential to enjoy activities like agility or other dog sports someday.
Most of all, Zeta wants a person who will appreciate both sides of her: the goofy, energetic girl who makes flying leaps onto the furniture and the sweet, affectionate girl who just wants to curl up beside her people.
Zeta is learning fast, loving hard, and discovering how wonderful life can be. She has so much potential—and she's ready for someone to help her reach it.
Erma

🐾 Meet Erma: Your Future One-and-Only!
8 Years Old • 78 lbs • Couch Potato Energy • Spayed
-
Dog Status: Wants to be your only dog (she likes her personal space!)
-
Cat Status: Indifferent/tolerant
-
Kid Status: Best with older, respectful teenagers
-
Home Needs: A quiet neighborhood, a securely fenced yard, and no apartments
The Erma Experience
Erma started as a scared stray in Ohio, but a road trip to Virginia changed everything. Today, she is a sweet, affectionate, and wonderfully goofy girl who has officially discovered the joy of being loved.
If you are looking for a loyal shadow, Erma is your girl. Here is what life with her looks like:
-
Professional Cuddler: Happiest lying right at your feet—or directly on top of you.
-
Toy Enthusiast: Carries her toys around the house with adorable pride and loves a game of fetch.
-
Power Chewer: Needs durable, heavy-duty toys on her wish list!
-
Low Maintenance: A few short, sniffing walks and plenty of couch time make her day.
-
Fully Trained: House trained and walks nicely in familiar areas.
Building Her Confidence
The world can still feel a bit big and scary for Erma. Loud noises, heavy traffic, and strangers can make her nervous. When she gets overwhelmed, she might bark or pull away—she isn't being difficult; she's just asking for your help!
Her foster family has done amazing work using positive-reinforcement training (like pattern games and a "Let's Go" cue) to help her navigate scary moments. Once Erma has a moment to look around and realize she is safe, her sweet personality shines right through.
Her Perfect Match
Erma is looking for a patient, positive-reinforcement-savvy adopter who understands that confidence takes time. Because she likes a predictable routine and is sensitive to noise, a quiet, peaceful suburban or rural home is a must.
Erma won't be the dog who greets every stranger at the door with a wagging tail. She is the dog who watches, learns, and carefully decides, "Okay... I think you're my person." And once she makes that choice? She is all in, loyal, and will love you with her whole heart.

Talley

Quick Facts:
5 years old | 48–60 lbs | Medium energy
Dog Friendly: Yes! She enjoys a peaceful lifestyle and would do best as an only dog or with a calm dog her age or older.
Cat Friendly: Unknown; she has not yet been tested with cats.
Kids: Limited experience, but she did very well when a 5-year-old grandchild visited her family. Recommended 8+ years
Home Needs: A loving home where she can be part of the family and enjoy plenty of companionship. A calm household and a patient approach while she settles in would be ideal.
Talley is ready for a forever home—and she has couch time to make up for!
Talley is a beautiful 5-year-old yellow Lab with a gentle nature and an easygoing personality. She’s currently in Red Oak, VA, near South Boston, but what she really wants is a home where she can spend her days with her people instead of spending so much time in an outdoor pen.
Her family’s busy schedule, travel, and downsizing have made it difficult to give Talley the time and attention she deserves. They know she would be happier in a home where she can be part of the family, and Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond is helping her find that next chapter.
A Sweet, Gentle Girl
Talley can be a little shy or nervous when she finds herself in a new environment, but she doesn't stay unsure for long. Once she gets her bearings, her sweet personality shines through. She loves meeting people, exploring her surroundings, and, naturally, checking out all the interesting smells along the way.
She has a wonderfully tolerant personality and doesn't need to be the center of attention. Talley would be perfectly happy spending time with her people, enjoying a leisurely sniff around the yard, and settling in for some well-earned relaxation.
Most of all, Talley needs someone who will give her the chance to discover how wonderful life inside a loving home can be.
Healthy & Ready for Her Next Chapter
Talley is spayed, in excellent health, and up to date on her core vaccinations. She tested negative for heartworm in January 2026 and is current on heartworm and flea preventatives.
Talley has spent enough time waiting. She's ready for a family who will make her a true part of their lives—and yes, we think she's earned those standard couch privileges.
Could you be the forever home Talley has been waiting for?

Gus is a big, handsome yellow Lab with an even bigger heart. At approximately 6 years old, this gentle giant is ready to trade his outdoor kennel for a home where he can finally be part of the family.
Gus has spent his entire life living in an outdoor kennel, so the world of being a family dog is still pretty new to him. But despite his limited exposure to life outside the kennel, Gus has shown us just how sweet, gentle, and willing to learn he is.
When first approached, Gus was excited and vocal, but once he was out with his evaluator, he settled into the role of a very good boy. He walked beautifully on leash and responded well to his handler. He even took direction when given a gentle correction during a water break—a great sign that Gus is listening and eager to please.
And Gus knows what he likes! Give this boy some water and he is one happy Lab. The more water, the better. Whether it's a pool, pond, creek, or sprinkler, Gus is ready to make a splash. He's also a big fan of affection. During his evaluation, Gus rolled onto his back and offered his belly for a good rub.
Treats were another definite favorite, and he was happy to work for them. Gus was also wonderful around the evaluator's dogs. He showed no aggression or inappropriate behavior toward either dog and remained calm and friendly. There is something especially endearing about Gus. He has the distinguished look of a sweet old gentleman, but underneath that big exterior is a dog who is discovering how wonderful it is to receive attention, affection, treats, and time with people.Gus has spent six years waiting for his life to really begin. Now he's ready for a family who will show him all the good things he's been missing—and give this gentle giant the love he's always deserved.
LRGR will pay for all necessary veterinary expenses, including his neuter and all vaccines. Your job is to provide love, support and a soft place for him to land!
